Building TrailFu
The map is not the ride.
Trail location matters. So do closures, weather, dirt, route shape, local knowledge, destination context, offline access, and the difference between prediction and authority.
THE THESIS
TrailFu starts with a map and immediately asks the questions a map cannot answer on its own.
THE HARD PART
A trail can exist on the map and still be the wrong ride today.
Mountain biking is unusually sensitive to context. Conditions change. Access changes. A route that looks obvious on a screen may be awkward on the ground. The useful product therefore has to understand the destination, the trail system, the route, the current evidence, the official authority, and what disappears when the rider loses signal.
THREE PRODUCT DECISIONS
The architecture follows the distinction you refuse to erase.
Authority before prediction.
Official closures and trail-authority information stay above probabilistic rideability. A weather-informed prediction can help a rider decide; it cannot reopen a closed trail.
Offline is part of the product, not a fallback screen.
Trail, destination, route, provider, stay, Bike Park, and local-knowledge discovery must remain useful when the trailhead has no service.
The destination is bigger than the trail line.
Riding trips include Bike Parks, shops, providers, stays, events, local practices, and route choices. TrailFu keeps those pieces connected to the ride without letting commercial placement alter organic riding intelligence.
THE SYSTEM SHAPE
Build outward from the rider's decision.
The product becomes coherent when every layer answers a question the rider is actually trying to resolve, from where to go through whether the dirt is likely to cooperate and what will still work once the phone is offline.
- 01
World
Understand destinations, Bike Parks, trail systems, and the larger MTB ecosystem.
- 02
Route
Turn trail geometry and local context into a ride that makes sense as a whole.
- 03
Now
Separate official authority, current evidence, and predictive rideability instead of blending them.
- 04
Offline
Carry the useful riding world into places where the network disappears.
THE BOUNDARY
Relevance cannot be bought.
TrailFu can support clearly labeled sponsored or featured placement around the MTB ecosystem, but payment contributes zero weight to organic trail, route, destination, or riding recommendations. The useful answer has to remain about the rider and the ride.
WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO EARN
Know the dirt means knowing more than where it is.
The goal is not to make the densest mountain-bike map. It is to reduce the uncertainty between deciding to ride and finding yourself on the right trail, in the right place, with enough context to understand what the day actually looks like.
